Who: Valentine, Matthew, any other housewarming visitors
Where: Matthew's apartment in Murray Manor
When: Sunday , around dinner time.
Summary: Valentine shows up with a cactus!
Incomplete/Complete: Incomplete
Rating: PG

Valentine considered what was appropriate to give someone for a housewarming gift. He had only spoken briefly to Matthew, so he didn't know the guy's tastes - only that he had moved into a better class of apartments and that he knew the mystical secrets of laundry.

That fact alone made Valentine desperately wish to become his friend. A cactus! Nothing said 'welcome to your house, here is something to make it homey' like cacti. He'd stopped at a florist along the way, then carried the small succulent carefully on the bus all the way downtown.

When he got off, he walked the block and a half from the bus stop to the apartment complex, and went inside to find the right room. He ran a hand through his hair, straightened the cactus, then knocked on the door hoping Matthew was in.

The young man had been busy cooking all morning - too much so to really give a crap about unpacking his few bags. Other than clothes, and his few electronics.

He had his iPod hooked up to a little speaker, and was currently singing along to his music as he cooked. The knock at the door made him blink, and he licked peanut sauce off his finger and opened it. "Ah, hey." He said cheerfully. Cooking put him in a good mood. "You must be Valentine. I'm Matt." Matt wiped his hands on his apron and grinned widely, stepping aside to let the boy in . "This my housewarmin' present?"

"It's a cactus," Valentine said, as if it weren't obvious, and offered it over. "For you, yes."

He smiled a friendly smile as he came on in to the apartment. "Thanks for inviting me over," he said. "It's a nice place you've got here."

He took it and nodded, setting it on the counter that separated the living room and dining room. "No problem, kiddo. I'm new here too. Nice to meet some of the people I'll end up workin' with." Matt went back into the kitchen. "You want a soda?" He asked, the smell of the foods filling the air.

"Dinner's almost ready. My ex was a vegetarian too, so I used to make stuff like this."

Valentine nodded. "Yes, please."

He settled onto the floor, sitting cross-legged and resting his hands on his knees. "It smells delicious, by the way... is there anything I should help with?"

Sherry knocked a little bit later, with a small dish in her hands.

Welcoming new people was always a fun thing. She'd have to have a really big barbeque sometime soon (with veggie food for her buddy Val)

Matt shook his head and lay out the food on the table. "I didn't invite you over here to make you cook. " He licked his fingers again and went to the door. "Hello, there. C'mon in and set the food on the table. Soda, love?"

He went to the fridge for another soda, setting one in front of Val. "I'm Matt."

"Sesame noodles." she said, offering over the dish "We were out of chicken. How is everyone?"
Feb. 18th, 2008 03:56 am (UTC)
Valentine smiled. "Hey, Sherry. I'm good."

He waved from his spot on the floor, then took his soda from Matthew. "Thankya."

He popped the tab, and had a sip.

"Sounds good. Thanks." Finally, he finished the rest of the food and set it all out. "So. Mu Shu vegetable spring rolls, stirfry, and a tofu wonton soup. Bon appetit." He grinned, turning the music down a smidge. "So, when did you two arrive?"

"I came in from Georgia a few weeks ago." said Sherry "Oh... here..." She reached into her pocket, and handed his a chinese coin.
Feb. 18th, 2008 04:19 am (UTC)
"Not too long ago," Valentine said. "Auditioned a couple of weeks ago - and now I'm just waiting nervously for the show season to start up."

He smiled and eyed the food, pleased that even the won-tons were vegetarian friendly.

"This looks great."
Feb. 18th, 2008 04:42 am (UTC)
Matt took the coin and grinned, pocketing it. "Thanks. I could use some good luck. Hopefully some good parts are comin' my way."

He sat on the floor across from Valentine. "Georgia, eh? Does that mean you're going to bring me some grits?"
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:02 am (UTC)
"If you like them." said Sherry "And , I hope you find all the luck that you need. I hope BOTH of you find it."
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:05 am (UTC)
Valentine looked up from the egg roll he was nibbling on.

"Luck - yeah, could use some of that."

He nodded in agreement. "And that laundry advice! I'm running out of shirts."
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:12 am (UTC)
"What kind of advice?" asked Sherry "Separate the colors, and drop in a scoop of detergent"
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:13 am (UTC)
"Me too. At least if I fail here, I have a safety net. London Orchestra wants me." Matt grinned. "So does my ex, but screw him."

"Yeah, no problem. Before you leave, I'll show you."
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:38 am (UTC)
"At least you have a backup plan. And an ex," Valentine said.

"I have neither of those."

He glanced over at Sherry. "You're supposed to color code the laundry?"
Feb. 18th, 2008 05:42 am (UTC)
(OOC: Mind if we do it in order to save it from getting confusing?)

"Yeah, and you're supposed to do some things in cold, some in hot.." He nodded. "It's a process, but easy enough. And trust me, you don't want my ex. He was a bastard."
Feb. 18th, 2008 07:27 am (UTC)
"Whites in hot water, lights in warm, color in cold." said Sherry "I think friendship is more important than going out type relationships. Most think I'm weird when I say that."
Feb. 19th, 2008 01:54 am (UTC)
Valentine nodded. "I agree with you. Relationships can get in the way of your career- that's what my mom always said. Okay, so she was divorced and really pushy, but.. y'know..."

He laughed a bit, and shook his head. Time to change the subject before he got moody. "But hey, this is really good food."
Feb. 20th, 2008 05:52 am (UTC)
Matt took another sip of the soda and half-wished he could have a beer. It'd be nice to just hang out and drink with some friends.

"Thanks. I do a lot of cooking. My stepfather owns a restaurant in London. "
